Expected result and pressure to take action

2025 was a challenging year for Swiss Post, but it also showed how important and reliable the company is for Switzerland. It is still relevant to people and the economy and provides high-quality services, enabling it to act from a position of strength. Nevertheless, the pressure to take action is rising appreciably.

In 2025, Swiss Post generated operating revenue of 7,305 million francs in a challenging environment. Operating profit stood at 332 million francs, and Group profit at 315 million francs. The capital base remains very stable, with 11.1 billion francs in equity. This overall result is in line with expectations.

Structural reasons for the lower result

The 82 million franc decline in the operating result is largely due to structural factors. Letter volumes fell by 4.2 percent to 1.49 billion consignments. This figure shows how important letters remain. Because letter volumes are continuing to decline, however, fixed costs are distributed over fewer and fewer consignments. Over-the-counter inpayments also continued to decline, falling by 9.5 percent. In addition to these factors, cost structures are largely fixed and the interest rate environment is challenging. In the letter and newspaper business alone, income is being eroded by around 85 million francs per year. This increases the pressure to take action. The year was also marked by geopolitical and macroeconomic uncertainties, which affected supply chains, energy prices, investment appetite and consumer confidence.

More parcels, fewer letters

Logistics Services generated an operating profit of 278 million francs. The structural decline in letter volumes weighed on revenue, while parcel volumes grew again for the first time in three years. The 186.6 million consignments equated to an increase of 3.7 percent. Margins in the parcel market are low, and profits are unable to offset the decline in the letter business. At the same time, Swiss Post is making targeted investments in its future viability. One example of this is the newly opened warehousing logistics center in Villmergen, the most modern of its kind.

Demand for secure digital services grows

Swiss Post’s physical services are increasingly being supplemented by digital solutions. Digital Services improved its operating result by 16 million francs to –51 million francs, recording an increase in demand. More specifically, 4.5 million consignments were posted digitally, which is around 60 percent more than in the previous year. The Post-App is increasingly becoming the central gateway to Swiss Post services and now has 2.2 million users. Another important milestone was the inclusion of the digital letter in the universal service. These are clear signs that the digital public service is becoming tangible, secure and increasingly popular with users.

PostFinance makes an important contribution

In 2025, PostFinance achieved an operating profit of 290 million francs. This represents an increase of 74 million francs year-on-year, despite the low interest rate environment. In doing so, the bank makes an important contribution to Swiss Post’s overall result.

Over 300,000 customer transactions per day in branches

Through its nationwide network of self-operated branches and branches with partners, PostalNetwork generated an operating result of –117 million francs. This represents a decline of 4 million francs year-on-year. In 2025, PostalNetwork handled more than 300,000 customer transactions every day.  However, demand for traditional over-the-counter transactions is still falling. Swiss Post is counteracting this trend with new service formats and supplementary services. The aim is for customers to be able to carry out several transactions in one place, making visits to the branches even more noticeable.

High demand at PostBus

Mobility Services generated an operating profit of 20 million francs. PostBus recorded  189.2 million passengers and an annual performance of 145.1 million kilometres.
