PostFinance provides easy access to cryptos
Since 2024, customers have been able to invest in cryptocurrencies via e-finance or the PostFinance App and store them securely. The “Staking” function for Ethereum was added to this range of services in January 2025, opening up additional sources of income.
Customers are increasingly interested in alternative forms of investment. They want to invest their assets more broadly, participate in new developments and take advantage of new income opportunities. Cryptocurrencies are becoming more and more important in this respect. This is also shown in a joint study by PostFinance and Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts: one in ten people in Switzerland invests in cryptocurrencies. However, trading was previously complicated, required technical expertise and often involved foreign stock exchanges. For many people interested in cryptos, these hurdles were too big.
Low entry threshold for easy investment
This is where PostFinance came in: in February 2024, it became the first systemically important bank in Switzerland to offer its customers easy and secure access to the crypto market. Cryptocurrencies can be traded and stored directly via e-finance and the PostFinance App. All without additional accounts or external providers and embedded in the usual banking environment. The service currently comprises 22 cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana. The entry threshold is deliberately low, and customers can invest from as little as 50 dollars. The crypto saving plan makes investing even easier: the amount and frequency of inpayments can be set individually, which is ideal for anyone who wants to invest automatically.

We’re making cryptocurrency trading straightforward.
In January 2025, PostFinance added the “Staking” function for the Ethereum cryptocurrency to its range of services. Customers can deposit their cryptocurrency and earn passive income. PostFinance is also a pioneer in this sphere among systemically important banks in Switzerland.
What is staking?
PostFinance tested its employees’ knowledge by asking them what proof of stake means. The answer can be found in the video below.
VideoServices for corporate customers coming in 2026
PostFinance is continually developing its range of services. At the beginning of 2026, six additional cryptocurrencies will be added. From mid-2026, customers with a joint account will also be able to use the service. At the same time, the staking function will be made more flexible and extended to other cryptocurrencies. PostFinance will also open the service to corporate customers from mid-2026. This will give companies the opportunity to manage crypto portfolios directly with PostFinance and to trade and stake cryptocurrencies. This will create a comprehensive crypto ecosystem that PostFinance will continually adapt to private and corporate customers’ needs.
